Star Citizen CCU calculator guide

Cross-Chassis Upgrades (CCUs) are how experienced players save hundreds of dollars on ships. Here's how they work -- and how to find the cheapest upgrade path to your target ship.

What is a CCU in Star Citizen?

A Cross-Chassis Upgrade (CCU) lets you upgrade from one ship to another by paying only the price difference between them. Instead of buying your target ship at full retail, you buy a cheap starter package and CCU your way up -- paying smaller incremental amounts at each step rather than the full price.

CCUs can be purchased in advance and held in your hangar indefinitely. This means you can lock in a low price during a sale today and apply the upgrade weeks or months later -- the savings are permanent.

CCU chain example: How the savings work

Goal: get a Constellation Andromeda ($250 retail). Instead of buying it outright, you build a chain of small Warbond CCUs from a cheap starter package.

Starter package
Aurora MR
$45
CCU step 1
Avenger Titan
+$10
Warbond CCU
running total: $55
CCU step 2
Cutlass Black
+$20
Warbond CCU
running total: $75
CCU step 3
Constellation Andromeda
+$50
Warbond CCU
running total: $125
You paid (chain)
$125
$45 + $10 + $20 + $50
Direct retail
$250
full price, no chain
You saved
$125
50% off retail

Prices are illustrative. Real CCU prices shift with sales -- use the CCU Game calculator for current values.

How to Use the CCU Calculator

1
Enter your current ship and target ship
The calculator shows every possible upgrade chain between the two, ranked by total cost.
2
Compare warbond vs standard CCU prices
Warbond CCUs require real money (not store credit) and are typically cheaper -- check current prices in CCU Game.
3
Check price history before buying
CCU prices fluctuate with sales. Buying at a sale price locks that savings in permanently.
4
Hold CCUs and apply when ready
Purchased CCUs never expire. Apply them in sequence when you're ready to upgrade.

Common CCU Questions

Can I CCU between manufacturers?
Yes -- you can upgrade from any ship to any higher-value ship regardless of manufacturer.
Does CCU-ing change my LTI?
Insurance follows the package. If your base package has LTI, the upgraded ship keeps it.
Can I CCU down to a cheaper ship?
No -- CCUs only go up in value. You cannot CCU to a ship worth less than your current one.
What's the difference between CCU and melting?
Melting permanently converts a pledge to store credit (this cannot be undone). CCU upgrades directly without losing your package.
Ready to calculate your CCU chain?
CCU Game tracks live prices, warbond discounts, and optimal paths for every ship.
